Project 2

Assignment 1

Put a description about your weekly exploration here.
  • What images did you select? The images I chose to select were photos I took during my 2023 spring/summer vacation out to Barcelona, Spain with my family for 8 days.
  • What is the meaning of the image? The meaning of the image(s) are to represent the various arcitectures in the city of Barcelona and the appreciation of how different the culture can be compared to back home in Canada. Almost every area in Barcelona carries this gothic/rural style in their buildings which looked amazing.
  • How does the selection of colours in your styling affect the outcome of your map? The overall selection of the colours in the mapbox images showcases various changes in major ways this is because depending on what is in the image whether if it is a light or darker colour it will make the roads or water more prominant, drawing the viewers attention to the specific area or if the grass lands is brighter it will show more than what the roads or water can portray via the saturation of said colour.
  • How did you explore the lecture content? I explored the lecture content by reading on how the 'Bivariate' and 'Geolocations' are being used in todays work places as technology becomes more advanced and companies are willing to implement it into their projects, it makes sense to learn how it helps them in the workplace as I will be using one of those methods for my final design. when reading the 'Bivariate' links provided in the lectures I learned that they are more complex to understand and operate than a single variate map. As for Geolocations it seems like you are implementing certain 3D aspects into a space where it looks 2D. One example to explain this would be in the lecture where it showcases one of the final designs for this project specifically.

A photo taken while I was being driven to the central hub in Barcelona. An architectural statue created to be shown to the public in the central area of Barcelona. A historical building that sat atop the hills. My first ever photo taken of the Basílica de la Sagrada Família in the morning. Another view of the Basílica de la Sagrada Família while I was on the bus ride tour during Day 1 in Barcelona. First ever photo taken by me when I entered into the Basílica de la Sagrada Família. Carefully crafted mosaic glass off to the side via the inside the Basílica de la Sagrada Família. Aisle shot of the church section of the building. religious statue at the back of the building sitting atop of white balcony. My photo of one of the spiral staircases that take you to the top of the Basílica de la Sagrada Família. An farther outside view of the building in an alley way market. A realistic 3D model of one of Barcelona's important hospitals during the 1800-1900's. My photo of the entrance to an Anime merchandise shop where I picked up some souvenirs. on the third-fourth day. Famous arch tower similar to the ones found in Paris, France. A picture showcasing the geological alleyways that lead to a famous local marketplace for people to explore. Another alley way path that displays small shops in each side for people to buy souvenirs, etc. My photo of another gothic style church that is well known in Barcelona. My photo of the small recreational area deep outside of the city of Barcelona where you can do various activities. Main building on the mountain side for locals and tourists to explore. My photo of the railway of the train that passes through the mountains from time-to-time. I used the image of the barcelona Arche structure for my first colour palette which gives the map a better view of where the roads go and the different grass areas are more prominant. the light blue colour gives the water on the map a good contrast to the land and roads colours. This image shows the colours of the Basílica de la Sagrada Família as another colour palette for the map and it shows the bigger grass lands better as it displays a more outstanding look to the different type of blue for the regular grass areas of the map. The third image that is used is the inside of the Basílica de la Sagrada Família, this colour way focuses more on the grass land areas since it is a bright yellow, the colour of the roads (black) provide a well composed style colour palette. The fourth image used is the mosaic glass in the building and the colours make the grass land a mint like colour so it stands out the most and the white park grass areas make it look like snow. The dark gray purple ish water is a good compliment to the composition. The fifth image used for the colour palette it creates this yellow green combination of an evergreen palette where the grass areas, roads, mountainous areas, and the water make up the spectrum of the various greens that are present in forests areound the world.

Assignment 2

Put a description about your weekly exploration here.
  • What was the process like for each of your mediums? The process for each of the mediums that I completed were easy to complete as for the first medium I wanted to complete/try out was the mapbox where we had to sort of tell a story via open data that the area allows us to showcase on the virtual world map of the said location we chose. Although I couldnt find any similar open data to Barcelona I opted to complete the work using Oakville as the location. Each screenshot showcased specific pieces of data collected all around the city which is why it has different visuals. For the Laser Cutting medium that I completed it was more suited towards my progress in the location I first explored of activity 1. I was able to look deeper into the history of the City of Barcelona and be able to manipulate the images to make them operable for the laser cutting machine if I do go through with the option of laser cutting my location for my final design.
  • What medium are you interested in continuing with? In terms of the medium that I am most interested in continueing for this project I will be going with the GeoLocation option where we have to utilize Adobe Aero for displaying a 3D model into a 3D space.
  • What location are you considering exploring moving forward? As previously mentioned I will be moving forward with a special location/area in the city of Barcelona to showcase the rich history the city has to offer for not just tourists like myself but also locals who are interested in learning about the their own past.
  • How did you explore the lecture content? Some of the lecture content that I explored during the Activity 2 process were the tutorial videos presented in the past weeks (ie. Weeks 6 & 7). The tutorials numbers 2, 3, and 4 are what I mainly focused on to be able to complete the weekly activity for this project.

Showcases the various pathways of the sidewalks of the city of Oakville. Fills out the surrounding area of barcelona to give the viewer a better understanding of the amount of land they own. Highlighting the areas of the local Cemetaries in the city. Showcasing gradual heatmapping area of certain parts of the city. Second showcasing of another colour used for the heatmapping. Displaying to the viewer the different Heritage Conservation District Areas in Oakville. Highlighting all the Snow Maintainance Areas of Oakville. Shows how much of the road in oakville has traffic signal interconnections. Displays the names of the surrounding villages in Oakville. Different Town Facilities that Oakville provides to the community. A black and white modified image of the Sagrada Familia. World Renoun Football Stadium 'Camp Nou' that hosts the City Team of FC Barcelona. Showcasing the different variations of the black and white image that is Barcelona and could be laser cut via the template. The famous Columbus Monument. Historical building just north of the Sagrada Familia called the Hospital De Sant Pau. My process in Mapbox showing how I got to make Barcelonas land mass in Black and White for laser cutting. Image I pulled off from the internet which displays the most prominant figures in the Tourist attarction of Park Guell. Variations of the Camp Nou Football Stadium in the laser cutting template. two variations of the Sagrada Familia in the laser cutting template. 1 variation of the Columbus Statue incorporated into the laser cutting template. Hospital De Sant Pau implemented into the laser cutting template. Created two variations of the Park Guell laser cutting design. A black and white image of the Catalan Independance Flag of Barcelona. Implemented the Catalan Independance Flag onto the laser cutting template. A template displaying the Gothic Quatar aka; Barri Gotic modified into a black and white vector image for laser cutting.

Spatial Workshop 1

  • Who did you work with for this workshop?
  • What best fits your exploration of space and why?
    • Architectural Psychology
    • Environmental Psychology
    • Landscape Theory
  • Consider their style and construction materials of the spaces chosen:
    • Is there a commonality?
    • Are there differences?
  • How does the exploration of space shape your exploration for your final project 2 submission?

Project 2

Final Project 2 Design

Put your design statement here:
  • What project option did you select, why? The project option that I chose to select for my final design is the Geolocation/Adobe Aero Experience. I chose this option because I felt like it would be a good challenge for me as I want to get better/used to Cinema4D. Another reason I chose it is because it sort of leads into my other projects in my other courses when utlizing not only Cinema4D but Adobe Aero along with it so, it gives me more practice.
  • How did you engage with lecture content during the project? The way I engaged with the lecture content during the project and final design is I dove into the Weekly content more specifically of Week 6 where it provides well designed Geolocation final designs and it gives me ideas on which direction I should go when creating my AR model in Cinema4D which will be implemented into Adobe Aero for the user experience.
  • How does this image/video summarize your work go beyond Assignment 1 & 2? I think that the image/video of the FInal Design of Project 2 goes beyond what I did in Assignment 1 & 2 because it shows the various changes that can be made from thinking of committing to doing Laser Cutting as my final design that relates to the location i chose to doing a 180 in creating a full 3D model that represents the city as a whole. Another reason as to why it goes beyond the Assignment 1 & 2 is because it is a 3D model that is a culmination of the different images which are in connection to the Football Club logo that I made in Cinema4D.

A Screenshot of the Render Preview of my Final Design which displays the Football Club representing the city of Barcelona.
